Resturant Review – Mandarin

November 24, 2010

Yes, ‘that’ Mandarin.

The infamous Chinese food restaurant. The all you can eat smorgesborg of food. The same restaurant that opens up in a city, and immediately puts every other organization out of business that provides buffet style food within a 50 block radius.

Personally, I don’t mind Mandarin. On occasion, it is a good choice for some greasy goodness, when ordering in. When it comes to eating there, I simply don’t eat enough food to justify the cost.

Over the weekend, the family had a gathering in Oshawa. After the gathering we all went to Mandarin for lunch. This was going to be a test for the ages, for as far as I know, it is lots of foods that do not meet my criteria.

However, I am pleased to report that in fact, I was able to eat, and eat quite well.

Mandarin has lots of vegetarian options. I stuck mostly to the salad bar, which had lots of bean salads, chick pea salads, and the like. They also had some raw and grilled veggies, and steamed veggies as well. On the day I was there, they were serving a broth, which was veggie based. I am sure there was some egg or some other thing in there, so that is my treat.

They also had melons that I could eat for dessert.

Overall, it was a successful trip. Even though I could not eat over 80% of the offering. Once I start introducing some of the other ‘food criteria’ foods, it will become a better option for yours truly!
